Lot 007 - Capt. Bullitt, KY Cavalry inscribed - S&W Model One, 2nd issue - with
historical information.

numbered to gun. Assembly numbers match throughout. S/n 122267. - With
copies of documents showing Capt. Geo. W. Bullitt serving with Co. H of the 12th
Kentucky Union Cavalry, and a brief history of the unit, including engagements
at Brandenburg, Kennesaw, and Lost Mountain, among many others. The Union 12th
Ky. Cav. fought against the
Confederate Kentucky Cavalry, led by famous Gen. John Morgan, at Horseshoe Bend
and elsewhere. The 12th pursued Morgan's Raiders through 3 states, and he
eventually surrendered to a group including elements of the 12th. Of particular
interest is the fact that some Bullitts served in Morgan's CSA Kentucky
Cavalry. One can speculate that Capt. Bullitt may have found himself fighting
against his relatives in 1863. - A great Civil War piece.
- antq - (estimate to 1000) - [skt-297]
Lot 008 - Smith & Wesson - Model 1, 2nd Issue - in wood case

compartmentalized wood case, brass inlay in lid, light wear to red fabric
lining. Pictured in SCSW1-2. - s/n 67828 - antq - (estimate 500 to 1000) -
[skt-119]
Lot 009 - Rare second quality S&W - Model One, 2nd issue

spots; barrel & cylinder dark patina w/ strong markings, including “2D QUAL'TY”
on both sides of the rear barrel. Working, dirty bore, fine rosewood grips. -
Rather than waste mechanically sound guns with minor casting or cosmetic flaws,
S&W marked them as second quality, and sold them to distributors at a discount.

Lot 010 - Smith & Wesson - Model One, Second Issue

Lot 011 - Lt. Col. Mullins, KY Mounted Infantry inscribed - engraved S&W Model
Two, Old Army - with historical information.
- .32 Rimfire; 6” barrel. - Condition is fine to excellent. - Lovely period
foliate scroll engraved, well executed w/ multiple crossovers. Period
inscription on the backstrap reads “Lt. Col. M. Mullins / 40th Ky Mtd Inf” -
Barrel and frame retain about 90-95% period plating, with a bit of light pitting
along the sides of the topstrap. Cylinder is a soft gray. Working; pitting &
distinct rifling in bore; assembly no. 5 matching on major components. -
Beautifully colored pearl grips have a shallow hardly noticeable old flake from
each panel, and a glued chip on the underside of the toe of one panel. Number
23432 is scratched on the inside of the right panel; very close to the s/n of
the gun; leading one to speculate that perhaps Lt. Col. Mullins had a pair of
these. - Accompanied by the Civil War military records of Union Lt. Col.
Matthew Mullins of the 40th
Kentucky Mounted Infantry, and internet research. Born 8/26/1827 in Pendleton
Co., KY, where he also died on 4/2/1903. - It appears his Civil War service
began in 1861 as Captain of the Police Guard of the Ky State Militia, after
which he was instrumental in raising the 18th Reg. Ky Infantry, serving therein
as a Colonel. Wounded in the leg in Richmond Ky. Served as Lt. Col. in the
40th Ky Mtd. Inf., and complimented by his commander for his conduct in routing
CSA Gen. John Morgan's Raiders at Cynthiana on 6/12/1864. - Included in his
military record is a photocopy of a hand transcription of Telegraph to Gen'l
Boyle from Brig. Genl S.S. Fry with the intriguing message - s/n “I received a
Dispatch from Col. True last night stating that Lt. Col. Mullins had nothing to
do with the outrages committed by the men of his regiment at Carlisle.” The
telegram appears to be dated Nov. 12, 1863. It's unknown whether it's relevant,
but a skirmish at Carlisle PA occurred July 1, 1863. - The town had been
overtaken by CSA forces a few days before, and was retaken by Union militia
forces. - Gen. JEB Stuart's forces arrived and demanded surrender of the town,
followed by shelling. Learning that the engagement at Gettysburg had begun,
Stuart withdrew after torching Carlisle Barracks. One source speculates that
Stuart's delay at Carlisle may have contributed to the Confederate loss at
Gettysburg. - What “outrages” may have been perpetrated there by Union forces
remains unanswered at this time.

Fine case colors on hammer, t-guard faded. Amateur very coarse shallow
checkering on face of trigger. Excellent tight mech; light pitting in good

the s/n is on the butt suggesting it was originally made as a revolver rather
than a combination set, these grips are probably not original to this gun.

Marked “L456” on butt, significance unknown, possible police marking? Although
the serial number is in the generally accepted 4th Model range, has the

condition. This gun's s/n is on the list of the 1000 American Models purchased

blued gun, but the remaining nickel looks as if it's been on this gun forever;
maybe 30-40% coverage overall w/ medium gray metal with pepper spotting where
the plating is gone. The replating must have been a top quality during the
period of use, with markings & edges well retained. No “U.S.” on barrel rib,
doubtless removed by a nervous previous owner decades ago. Army inspection
marks include all proper A's & P's, distinct on frame & cylinder, faint but

frame under grips. S/n's on metal parts match. - Good tight mech; excellent
bore. Fine grips numbered to a different gun. A rare variation. Collection
notes indicate this gun was obtained in Cuba from Hijos de A Bozor, Jerex de la
Frontera, in 1958. - s/n 14621 - antq - (estimate 700 to 1250) - [skt-048]

remainders of blue. Fine markings; muted case colors on hammer & guard.

- U.S.
military single action revolver - .45 S&W; 7” barrel. - About good condition. -
Mottled gray metal; good markings, including “U.S.” on butt, and proper Army
inspection markings. Rear latch is an unusual configuration, possibly modern
replacement, does not fit perfectly but functions, w/ barrel to frame lockup a
bit loose. Otherwise working; firing pin replaced. Light roughness in fairly
good bore. Smooth unnumbered walnut grips are generally proper configuration as
probably sanded down a bit, possibly replacements. - Owner reports that although
this revolver is well into the 2nd Model s/n range, a 2nd Model latch will not
fit. Makes for interesting speculation, possibilities for further research. -
s/n 3278 - antq - (estimate 1250 to 2500) - [skt-051]

case colors, 50% blue on guard. Will not hold full cock in SA mode, otherwise
working; fair bore. Fine hard rubber grips. Altered front sight. - Infamous
Kansas abolitionist, John Brown, had a son named Salmon, 1836-1919, who
participated in Brown's activities, including being one of the broad sword
executioners in the Pottawatomie massacre according to one account. I have yet
to find any information on who Curtin & Lawson might be. - s/n 13188 - antq

Lot 108 - Smith & Wesson - Frontier .44 DA -
.44-40 (44WCF); 4” barrel. - Probably mixed numbers; otherwise about excellent.
- 90-95% bright nickel, with spotting on barrel & frame; cylinder has about 100%
of a very slightly less bright finish. Faded case colors, guard gone plum.
Good mech; fine bore. Excellent nicely colored medallion pearl grips, very
slight chip to top left panel. - It appears as if the cylinder and barrel have
been renumbered to match the s/n on the butt and latch. - s/n 45024 - antq -

- .22 Long Rifle; 10” barrel. - Excellent condition. - 99% bright factory type
blue, nice case colors, strong markings include “H.M. POPE” on barrel rib.
While the bluing looks to be factory type and quality, there seem to be a few
marks under the blue that would not have been left by the factory, so possibly
refinished; maybe at the time that famous gunsmith Pope worked the barrel. -
Nicely figured wood medallion target extension grips, pencil numbered to a
different gun. Other numbers match. Pictured in SCSW3. - s/n 3992 - C&R ffl -

further research. Interior has been jeweled. Exterior 95%+ blue, thinning in
streaks on left side & in small spots on sideplate. Dark case colors, good
mech, bore should clean to good. Minor usage marks to extended target grips. -
D prefix to serial number is believed to indicate a “Duplicate” s/n; i.e., the
same number accidentally used on two different guns. This gun came with the
next lot, a Heiser holster, out of Arkansas. This lot is the gun only. -
s/n D9372 - C&R ffl - (estimate 300 to 600) - [skt-288]

front 3/4” of barrel has turned plum. Good mech; a couple spots of roughness in
rear of bore. Excellent grips. - s/n 818* - C&R ffl - (estimate 400 to 800) -
